Drill bits are cutting tools that are used to make cylindrical holes that are usually invariably circular in cross-section. Drill bits come in various sizes and have numerous applications. Bits are typically attached to a device, commonly referred to as a drill, that rotates them and applies torque and axial force to make the hole. A drill bit is a removable instrument that is attached to a drill and used to create a hole in the material being worked on. Because some are better suited to cutting through specific materials than others, they come in different forms and sizes. High-Speed Steel (HSS) is a preferred material for use in drill bits as it has a higher red hardness and improved wear resistance. These properties allow for drilling at higher operating speeds and into harder materials.
