The MAX7219 is a serial input / output common-cathode display driver that is attached to a microprocessor and has an 8-digit 7-segment digital LED display that may also be connected to a bar graph display or 64 independent LEDs. To store each data, an On B BCD encoder with an on-chip, multi-channel scanning loop word drive and an 8 x 8 static RAM is employed. To set the current of each LED section, just one external register is used. All general-purpose microprocessors may be connected using a simple four-wire serial interface. Each data may be handled in the update, which eliminates the need to redo the entire display. MAX7219 additionally allows the user to choose whether to code or not code each data point.
The complete gadget has a 150A low-power shutdown mode and analogue output.
