MAX7219 is a 4-in-1 display that may be used in a variety of ways. The individual module has 8x8 LEDs, each of which is controlled very precisely by the MAX7219 driver to produce the desired pattern. The advantage of employing this is that users would be able to control all 64 LEDs by simply attaching three output communication wires to microcontrollers such as Arduino. It's a simple four-wire serial interface that can connect to most microprocessors. Each piece of data can be addressed separately, eliminating the need to update all displays at the same time. The MAX7219 additionally gives the user the option of encoding or not encoding each piece of data.
